To Buy or Not

A cousin asked if I have any photos of my grandparents. I think she’s doing some genealogy work. I had done a lot of that a few years ago, and then lost interest because it involves so much detail.

Now that she has asked, however, my interest is piqued again. The program I used has been upgraded at least 2 versions, and an upgrade is pretty expensive ($60). The old version doesn’t run on my present operating system.

This means that I have no access to the data I put in earlier. Hmmm. I don’t know. I have at least one other program I’d rather upgrade (iBank ) and it’s cheaper.

I just seem to be writing alot about spending money lately. Not Good.

Executive Order

A friend of mine told me to google, “anti war executive order.” and the path led me to this page dated july 17th. Anyone know if this is accurate?

Debate

I’m watching the Democratic debate… I think Dennis Kucinich is a strong contender for my vote.

What If and Now

Okay, I admit it. It’s scary thinking about this kidney thing. I recently read a wonderful blog on “What If”. Now if I can live in the now the way Eckhart Tolle, professes, I could be at peace. I just keep falling into the what if well. Somedays, it’s just harder than others.

The watch…

finally is resting comfortably on my left wrist as I type this entry.  It got there amid more drama at the post office.   You’ve experienced it before.  People wait in line for the clerk to return only to be told to get in another line.  I’m surprised there aren’t more acts of violence at the PO.

Anyway, it’s everything I thought it  would be, and I’m happy.

Time Sloughs On

If you have checked the comments, you are aware of the latest incident involving the watch that was ordered oh these many weeks ago and stuck in a post office since July 2. I called Herrington and the woman on the phone agreed that the ordered appeared to be stuck (according to the tracking info), so she was going to send me another watch… This time via FedEx, BUT it was now backordered. I gratefully accepted the offer and resigned myself to getting the watch sometime in September if I was lucky.

So yesterday, I went to a garage sale in Staten Island that some friends were throwing and spent a whopping five bucks on books and CDs. Anyway I come home and there’s a slip in my mailbox of an attempted delivery from the post office (labeled as being from Herrington). This has to be the original order because it’s not FedEx. Meanwhile the check box labeled Final Notice is marked as if delivery attempts were made before now (minor grrrrr). So I can finally get my instant gratification purchased watch tomorrow. I have only one comment… We’ll see.

WiFi

Some WiFi networks in my neighborhood:

hawking

linksys-amiga

4c57

LordZ

YuvalNet

More of them come and go.  What networks are in your neighborhood?

Some Wetha, Huh?

We’ve had a couple of scorchers here in the north east. I’m not complaining because I know there are others having a much worst time of it as far as mother nature is concerned. But it is warm (94º, 93º, 93º). I’m looking forward to the drop into the 80s tomorrow.

Slow Boat

I bet you thought I forgot to let you know about the watch watch. Well, according to the tracking, it was scheduled to be “in home” on July 2nd, but it’s still sitting at a local post office. Apparently Herrington uses a system in which FedEx handles the initial transfer and then hands the package off to the Postal Service. So, my watch has been sitting at a Post Office (not my local one) for 5 days.

Want an exercise in frustration? Try to find the phone number of your local post office or Postmaster. I have been unsuccessful so far. Calling Herrington gets the answer that the package is not considered late until 14 days (it’s been 10). So much for instant gratification.

July 4th

Happy Fourth of July.
